Artist Steve Wilson

Artist Steve Wilson was born in Long Beach, CA in 1945. His family followed the oil fields and highway construction so he lived in many of the western states. When he was 8 he began an interest in drawing but it when he was 15 that he began to have an interest in painting. While in Flagstaff he was taken under the wing of painter and Art Professor Gene Davies. Steve began to hitchhike around the west, mostly in Los Angeles, Tucson and of course Denver.
In 1967 Wilson met artists and writers who had moved from California and New York. He began working with artists such as Tony Scibella and Saul White. These two artists has a great influence on Wilson and the three of them were rarely apart. They had a group show at the Bowery Gallery in 1975
Wilson was introduced to Elizabeth Schlosser in 1999 and had a one-man show in her gallery in June of the same year. She was his first art dealer
Wilson’s main medium is oil paints and collage. He tries to paint to create a story or memory.
